Back to Square One

Jadzia turned four on Sunday. You can read her birth story here. She got a couple of presents: a strawberry shortcake doll and a Cinderella purse. After lunch we had her cake. It was a princess cake topped with a crown and magic wand.

Ronon really liked the tissue paper from Jadzia's present and carried it around throughout the day and he laughed when he crinkled it.

Sunday night Ronan started not wanting to eat. He would take maybe an ounce and then refuse the rest. I waited to see how Monday went and he continued not really wanting to eat. I called his surgeon thinking they would see him in his office. Instead he wanted him admitted to the hospital. We didn't even have to go through the Er just straight up to the pediatric unit.

He was dehydrated so they gave him an IV. The plan was to keep him until Thursday and then scope and dilate his wrap. The next day he was back to eating like he was before Sunday. they were then thinking they were going to call everything off and not do anything at all.

The problem with this was while he was eating better than he was on Sunday and Monday he wasn't any better than when he left the hospital last Thursday. Honestly I didn't want him to have a procedure but I was concerned they were going to leave him on a liquid diet for months to come. I had read that sometimes doctors make a patient wait for six months for this particular issue. I couldn't imagine him only getting two ounces every two hours for six months.

I wasn't sure what to do at this point but I refused to let Ronan be forgotten. I kept missing the doctor. Jadzia had her four year check up and speech therapy. All the other things I had to do seemed to coincide with the times the doctor decided to stop by Ronan's room.

My only method to communicate with the doctor was via the nurses. Finally with the Thursday decision looming I told the nurse how I felt about everything. I told her if they didn't want to do the endoscopy and dilation I was fine with that. I didn't want Ronan to have more surgery. But if they were not going to do anything then I wanted him closely monitored until they were sure it was stretched and he could eat more than just liquids.

The monitoring could be outpatient but I didn't feel comfortable giving him pureed foods by myself at home. I wanted him to be given them in the presences of medical professionals since choking is a likely risk.

The nurse talked to the doctor and they decided the best course of action would be to go ahead with the endoscopy. Now we are probably back to square one. The doctor said most likely the wrap will come undone when they dilate and the original surgery will be repeated.
His surgery will take place at 10:00 am tomorrow and I'm a bundle of nerves. I am once again taking Isiah 41: 10 with me.
