Dr. Suess Contest

Every year at one of our local malls they have a Dr. Seuss birthday event.  There are games, cookies, free books and more.  One thing they also do is have a contest and after years of just attending the event the kids asked me if they could enter.  The requirement was you had to dress up like a Dr. Seuss character.

I wondered how I was going come up with three Dr. Seuss costumes in a week.  The boys decided to be thing one and thing two.  Jadzia wanted to be the cat in the hat.  I found the basics for her costume at a party store.  But I knew I'd have to add a bit more to make her stand out.  So I got face paint and gave her a black nose and whiskers.  I also got her a tail.  She was adorable.

For the boys I found temporary hair dye for kids (It washes our with the first rinse).  I also made them thing one and thing two symbols for their red shirts and got them red pants.  I was hoping it would be good enough since it was so last minute and I tried my best to be creative for them.

I got to go because my doctor said I could go to some events if I took it easy and they weren't too frequent or long.The kids enjoyed the event getting cookies and playing the games.  There were reptiles to look at and get close to  The boys found the snakes much more fascinating than Jadzia did.

 

 We signed up for the contest.  Landon was contestant #1, Xander #3 and Jadzia #2.  12 contestants total. Jadzia was a star and she waved and smiled like a little princess.  Time came to vote and for the audience to decide. 

  Lots of people screamed for the boys.  Complete strangers were voting for them.  Then they got to Jadzia and the crowd went crazy.  People were whispering how cute she was.  This is why I was surprised when they pulled the boys forward and another little girl but left Jadzia behind.

When Jadzia was left behind her face dropped a little.  She was being a good sport but you could tell she was a little disappointed.  In my hormonal state I almost started to cry but I held it in.  Then this lady started yelling "Hey #2 had the most votes!".  I had never seen this woman before in my life and she was right.  Jadzia should have won based on audience voting.  The lady yelled it three times. I'm not sure if it was that woman's insistence or the judges just deciding but at the last minute they pulled Jadzia forward and my three kids and the other cute little girl were the winners.

They got to pick out a stuffed animal.  The boys both picked loraxes and Jadzia picked a duck. I have more to post but I think I'll leave this one post and post the rest in another entry.
