So we didn't get to finish the 12 days of Christmas blog posts because Ronan ended up back in the hospital. He hadn't been eating very well all week and his blood sugar was all over the place. On Friday morning he just couldn't keep his sugar level above 50 for very long and was fighting me on drinking and eating. I called his Endocrinologist and she sent us to the hospital because she concluded he needed a feeding tube placed.
A feeding tube is something I've been trying to avoid for awhile and doctors have been lightly mentioning for months. The talks about the tube became more serious after his 15 day hospital stay at the end of November. This last Friday we were admitted to the hospital where he was to be monitored until Tuesday when his GI doctor and surgeon would put in the feeding tube. They decided to put in a PEGS tube which is smaller and more temporary than a traditional g-tube.
Ronan did pretty well through the weekend on an NG tube (feeding tube in his nose) and Tuesday the tube was placed. It had two small buttons on each side of his abdomen that held his stomach where they wanted it. The buttons were supposed to stay in place for at least four weeks but two minutes into the recovery room he rolled over and one popped off. This means if we get home and the other one pops off he needs taken to the ER immediately and admitted for replacements. Also because of the one button breaking off so quickly his abdomen will need wrapped constantly.
Santa came to visit him twice. Once Yesterday and once today. Each time Santa brought him toys. Yesterday he got a big Tonka fire truck, stick horse, car and a set of wood alphabet blocks. Today's Santa brought him an octopus piano bath toy that also blows bubbles and a stuffed teddy bear. Jadzia and I were walking in as Santa was leaving so she had to get a quick picture with him. Ronan was too afraid of Santa to get his picture taken.
Jadzia was also pretty excited because a window washer was dangling from a harness and washing Ronan's hospital room window three stories in the air. He even waved at her which she thought was pretty neat.
Ronan will hopefully be out of here by Friday. He's been acting very lethargic today and I have some concern he's having more adrenal issues from his procedure. The doctor told me they would keep an eye on him and if he still seems tired in the morning they will do some blood work to make sure he's not having another adrenal crisis.
On Sunday we went to the church Christmas program. It was a puppet show about the birth of Christ. Inara really liked the puppets and kept gasping in awe and pointing at anything that sparked her interest. She wore her Christmas dress and of course I had to take lots of pictures of her in it.
Lately Inara has been extremely attached to her pillow pet lady bug. He is named "Bug" of course and she won't put him down. She won't let me fold it into a pet it must remain a pillow at all times.
Something I didn't get pictures of were our cookie baking and decorating. We had planned to make snowflakes and had a cookie cutter for it but when the snowflakes baked they looked more like Flowers. Luckily we were saved because the pumpkins Xander insisted on making still looked like pumpkins when we were done. He called them Christmas pumpkins. And as always here are more pictures of the kids.
